Prates routs Della Maddalena in UFC Fight Night 275 main event

Brazilian welterweight Carlos Prates picked up one of the biggest wins of his career at UFC Fight Night 275, held April 2 in Perth, stopping Australia’s Jack Della Maddalena in the main event and moving closer to a title shot.
Prates quickly found his range and began taking control in the opening round. The Brazilian consistently landed the jab, followed with his right hand, caught Della Maddalena with knees and steadily chopped at his legs with low kicks.
Prates’ advantage became even clearer in Round 2, as Della Maddalena struggled to put combinations together and could not shift the momentum. The finish came in the third round. Prates dropped the Australian with a calf kick, then followed up with elbows and hammer fists on the ground before the referee stepped in at the 3:17 mark.
After the win, Prates said he plans to attend the August title fight between Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry to call out the winner in person.
In the co-main event, Beneil Dariush suffered another damaging loss. The American lightweight was stopped by Australia’s Quillan Salkilld via first-round TKO. It was Dariush’s fourth stoppage loss in his past five fights.
It was also a tough night for heavyweight Shamil Gaziev, as the Dagestan-born fighter was knocked out by Brando Pericic in the second round.
